Auto-Gen Board Covers
Auto-Gen Board Covers is what a paid plan’s board slots are for. Each slot lets Smart Icon Cover make icon covers on one board for you. It does two things:
- A 1-time batch covers the cards already on the board.
- Auto-cover for new cards: each new card gets its icon cover about a minute after its title was last edited, so a quick fix to the title is included.
You don’t need it to use Smart Icon Cover: you can make icon covers card by card on any board where the Power-Up is added, on every plan. Turn Auto-Gen on only for the boards where you want covers made for you.
Turn it on for a board
- Open the board, then open Smart Icon Cover’s dashboard from the board’s header.
- On Boards & Card Cover Credits, click Turn On for this board.
- Choose the cards for the 1-time batch and confirm.
Smart Icon Cover makes the first 12 icons and shows them to you at their real size. Click Apply to Board to put them on the cards; the rest of the batch follows, filling in card by card. While the first icons are being made you can click Continue Running in Background: each icon then goes on its card as it’s made, and you can carry on with your board.
Undo a batch
For 24 hours after a batch runs, Undo Batch takes its icon covers off and gives each card back the cover it had before.
Once per board
The 1-time batch is once per board. Turning Auto-Gen off and on again doesn’t give a second batch; new cards still get their covers, and you can cover any card by hand.
Which cards get a cover
Auto-cover covers cards created on the board while Auto-Gen is on. It skips:
- cards that already have a cover (a colour, an image, or another Power-Up’s);
- titles shorter than 3 characters, or only numbers;
- cards archived, deleted or moved to another board before their cover is made.
After a card has its icon, renaming it doesn’t make a new one, so fixing a typo never uses a credit. Click Regenerate on the card if you want a new icon.
Turn it off
Click Turn Off next to the board. Its icon covers stay, new cards stop getting covers, and the slot is free for another board. You can still make icon covers card by card.
Who the covers are made by
Trello shows the icon cover in the card’s activity as added by the member who turned Auto-Gen on for the board. On Team and Business, that’s the Account-Holder: only they turn Auto-Gen on and off, because it uses the plan’s board slots.
Free plan
Free doesn’t include Auto-Gen Board Covers. It has a free list run instead: icon covers for up to 10 cards on one list, one time. See Pricing for what each plan includes.
